What is Balabrain?

The name Balabrain comes from “bringing your brain in balance”. Life pulls us in many directions - stress, overthinking, restlessness, exhaustion. Balabrain is a personal tone-calibration tool that uses two sine tones, one per ear, to create a gentle difference frequency. It is designed for self-regulation and exploration, not treatment.

Two slightly different frequencies are played to each ear. The difference between them creates a subtle perceptual effect. By adjusting the Pitch and Disrupter controls, you can explore how different tone combinations feel to you.

Balabrain guides a simple process: notice what you are feeling, tune the sound until it relates to that sensation, then fine-tune and observe whether the feeling shifts. There is no single correct setting - the value is in the exploration.

What You Can Explore

Balabrain is designed for self-regulation and exploration. Some areas people choose to explore include:

Emotional Charge

Noticing the intensity of a feeling and observing it shift

Restlessness

Finding a tone that feels grounding or steadying

Mental Noise

Using the sound as a point of focus when the mind is busy

Focus Preparation

A short session before work, study, or creative time

Wind-Down

An evening practice to transition from activity to rest

Body Awareness

Noticing where a sensation lives in the body as you listen

Practice Rhythm

Some users find value in short, regular sessions. Experiment with what works for you. There is no prescribed duration or frequency.

Starting Points

The app includes five intention-based starting presets to give you a place to begin:

Energy

A brighter starting point for feeling more alert.

Focus

A sharper starting point for concentration.

Unwind

A balanced starting point to help you unwind.

Calm

A soft starting point for calming down.

Sleep

A low-volume starting point for winding down.

Tap any preset to apply its settings, then fine-tune from there. When you find a combination that works, save it as a Toneprint using the save icon in the header.

Session Flow

1

Listen

Start the session and adjust the Left and Right volume until the sound is moderately loud, comfortable, and feels centered in your head.

2

Tune

Bring your attention to whatever you are noticing - a sensation, an emotion, a thought. Slowly adjust the Pitch knob until the tone feels connected to what you noticed.

Tip: The full range (38-362 Hz) is available. Start anywhere and explore.

3

Settle

Slowly adjust the Disrupter knob and notice what changes. The sensation may soften, shift, or dissolve. Move gently through the range and observe.

Tip: Slow adjustments work best. Breathe steadily and stay with whatever arises.

About the Disrupter

The Disrupter changes the difference between the two ears. At 0 Hz both ears play the same pitch. As you increase it, the left ear becomes slightly higher, creating a difference frequency of 1-20 Hz.

Different offsets may feel calmer, sharper, softer, or more focusing to different people. There is no universal correct setting. Explore and notice what works for you.
